How to Check if My Computer is Running 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System


When you want to install some software or drivers you should know if your computer running 32-bit or 64-bit operating system (Microsoft usually labels them as x86 or x64). This guide will help you to determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version Windows 7:

Method 1

  1. Press and hold down “Win key” and then press “R”press Win key+R
  2. Type dxdiag and then click “OK”
    This will open the DirectX Diagnostic Tooltype dxdiag and click OK

    Now you can read the Windows version and determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of WindowsDirectX Diagnostic Tool

Method 2

    Click Start Button/Blue Orb and then click “Control Panel”click start button and then click Control Panel
    Click “System and Security”select System and Security
    Click “System”select System
    For a 64-bit Version: 64-bit Operating System appears for theSystem type
    For a 32-bit version: 32-bit Operating System appears for theSystem type
